Every Business Is Going to Need an AI Wrangler. Here's Why.

The more small businesses I talk to about AI, the more clear it becomes: there's a new type of role that every business is going to need. And most don't even know it exists yet.

The role is an AI Wrangler.

Not a developer. Not an IT person. Not a consultant who drops a PDF and disappears. Someone who actually sits between the business and the technology and makes AI work in the real world.

What an AI Wrangler Actually Does

They figure out the highest-leverage workflows in your business — the ones where if you threw AI at them, you'd either do them 10x faster or stop doing them manually altogether.

Things like answering the same customer questions 47 times a day. Responding to DMs at 11pm when you're trying to have dinner. Updating your website but dreading the process so much it hasn't been touched in a year. Writing the same follow-up emails over and over. Manually booking appointments that a machine could handle in its sleep.

The AI Wrangler's job is to look at how your business actually runs today, figure out what the future-state workflow should look like, and then build and connect the AI tools to make it happen.

That means setting up chatbots that actually know your business. Phone agents that answer like your best employee. Websites structured so AI search engines recommend you. Co-pilots that draft your emails, proposals, and content in your voice.

Beyond Deployment — A True AI Wrangler

But that's just the deployment side. The real work — the work that separates an AI Wrangler from someone who just installs tools — is everything that comes after.

Managing AI agents day to day. Deploying new ones when the business needs change. Fine-tuning models so they stop hallucinating and start giving answers your customers can actually trust. Connecting data sources — your CRM, your booking platform, your docs, your emails — so the AI has the context it needs to be genuinely useful, not generically helpful.

Fixing hallucinations is a big one. Every business owner who's tried ChatGPT has had that moment: the AI confidently says something completely wrong. An AI Wrangler knows how to build the guardrails, train the system on YOUR data, and set up the feedback loops so the AI gets better over time instead of making things up.

Mapping the real data flows. Figuring out where the human needs to stay in the loop. Getting the AI enough context to do the job properly. Running evals after every major update. Tracking KPIs. Retraining. Optimizing. Making sure it all keeps working as your business changes.

A true AI Wrangler.

Every Business Will Need One

This person needs to be good at understanding business operations AND comfortable with the technology. They don't need to write code — but they need to know what's possible, what's practical, and what's just hype.

Every business is going to need this role. The ones that figure it out first are going to have a massive head start. The ones that wait are going to wonder why their competitors suddenly got so fast.
